Adoption Process

We generally have about 120 dogs at the shelter of all ages, colours, shapes and sizes and all with different personalities and temperaments. Each dog is health assessed, vaccinated, microchipped and neutered if over 6 months old. Each dog and each family are unique and we do our best to match dogs with suitable families.

Please call us to make an appointment: 04 887 8739

Do you do adoption days?

Every day is an adoption day at K9 Friends!

By coming to visit the shelter we can make sure you can meet a wide variety of dogs and take the time it needs to find the perfect new addition to your family.

If you feel you are ready to adopt one of our dogs, please phone the K9 Friends office.  One of our volunteers will talk you through the adoption process, answer any questions you have and  book an appointment to visit the shelter to meet with one of our homing volunteers and suitable dogs. Please note if you live in an apartment we require a letter of permission from your landlord. In addition, we generally do not home young puppies to an apartment as it is very difficult to house train them in an apartment.

We are by appointment only and are open from Monday to Saturday, from 9.00am to 1.00pm. We are CLOSED on Sunday. Please note that our busiest times are weekends and school holidays.

What is the cost?

Our rehoming fees (including VAT) are:

Dhs 1,250 for a mixed-breed dog.

Dhs 1,750 for a mixed-breed puppy 12 months or under

Dhs  2,250 for a pure/designer-breed dog.

Dhs 2,950 for a pure/designer-breed puppy 12 months or under

These fees help to cover the huge cost of running the shelter and the following  treatments carried out by K9 Friends.

  • Microchipping

  • Initial vaccinations

  • Flea and worming treatment

  • Neutering- anyone adopting a puppy under six months will be asked to sign a neuter agreement to say they will have this done. There is a huge stray dog problem in Dubai and it is very important to us that none of our dogs are able to produce more dogs.

Do I need to bring anything?

Please be sure to bring along all members of the family, any other dogs that you have and of course any helpers in your home.  We believe it is vital for everyone who will be living with the dog to be involved in the adoption process.

If you live in a rented apartment, you will need bring written permission from your landlord and building management.

*Please note that you have to be 21 years old and the home/lease owner.

Anything else?

We cannot guarantee that any dog seen on this website will be at K9 Friends when you visit. We can only reserve a dog for you after an appointment and then only for a few days.

Although each dog has been assessed whilst at the shelter, we cannot accept responsibility for the temperament of any animal once it has been rehomed.

Still not sure you are ready to adopt? It's also possible to foster a dog for a short period of time. Foster.

We are by appointment only and are open from Monday to Saturday, from 9.00am to 1.00pm. We are CLOSED on Sunday.
